About Andreas Stoehr
Andreas Stoehr is a modern conductor known for his ability to merge diverse aesthetic streams and styles. His passionate approach to a broad repertoire has earned him acclaim from the public, press, and colleagues.
Stoehr studied music history at the University of Vienna and piano and conducting at the Vienna Music Conservatory under Reinhard Schwarz. Influenced by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and historically informed performance practices, he synthesized these elements in his career.
He served as Music Director of the Opéra Comique in Paris, focusing on Mozart operas and French repertoire, including premieres of works by Luciano Chailly and Victor Ullmann. As principal conductor at Theater St. Gallen, he premiered operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and more.
At Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Stoehr led acclaimed productions of Monteverdi, Wagner, and Debussy. He introduced historically informed techniques to non-specialized orchestras in performances of Scarlatti, Handel, and Mozart.
Stoehr's research and performance interests led to modern performances of Meyerbeer’s Emma di Resburgo, Schubert’s Der Graf von Gleichen, and Gluck’s Ezio. He has also worked with the Vienna Symphony, Munich Symphony Orchestra, and more.
His symphonic repertoire spans from baroque to contemporary works. Stoehr is recognized for uncovering and performing rare operatic works, enhancing his reputation in both historical and modern music theater.
